The geoPaste Drawing Locator screen provides an auto rotating Google Maps™ satellite or street map view that is used to locate geoPaste drawings within your immediate vicinity.
The inbuilt compass sensor is used to provide auto rotation of the Google map together with the inbuilt GPS sensor to pinpoint your current location. The up/down dpad/trackball buttons can be used to zoom in and out of the map.
The geoPaste Drawing Locator screen indicates if it is currently displaying PUBLIC or PRIVATE geoPaste drawing details. This can be changed within the Settings screen.
The MENU button can be used to switch between satellite and street map views.
The overlay on the map shows a red circle indicating your current location, blue circles indicate the location of any geoPaste drawings within your immediate vicinity with numbers indicating the distance in meters to each drawing.
Red lines joining the red and blue circles indicate the direction to move in order to reach the geoPaste drawing.
The geoPaste Drawing Locator uses your internet connection to periodically query the geoPaste cloud services to provide details about nearby drawings.
The geoPaste Drawing Locator as well as the geoPaste Augmented Reality screen limits the frequency of these queries to not more than once per 30 seconds and provided that-
* you have moved at least 11 meters;
* the current GPS inaccuracy is less than 33 meters;
* your current speed is less than 10 meters per second.
A message is displayed each time a search query is completed showing the number of drawings found nearby.
The number of geoPaste drawings shown within your vicinity depends on the number of drawings that have been published nearby.
Where there is 16 or less drawings close by, the search query extends to a distance of approximately 300 meters, where there is more than 16 geoPaste drawings nearby the search is limited to a distance of approximately 30 meters.
The geoPaste Drawing Locator uses a 'wake lock' to keep your screen on whilst the map is displayed, keep this in mind to conserve your devices battery power.
geoPaste is best experienced using 3G or WIFI network connections.
Check that your internet connection is functioning using the browser app before starting geoPaste.
The geoPaste Augmented Reality (AR) screen is used to view and interact with geoPaste drawings located in your immediate vicinity. The geoPaste Augmented Reality screen shows the camera preview window over which is displayed the closest (up to 16) geoPaste drawings that are located nearby. PUBLIC or PRIVATE geoPaste drawings are displayed based on the current setting configured within the Settings screen.
The overlay at the bottom of the screen shows compass arrows pointing in the direction of each geoPaste drawing as well as numbers indicating the distance in meters to each drawing from your current location. The compass arrows are shown in green when you are within the proximity distance ( which you can configure within the settings screen ) and red when you are outside this distance.
The size of each geoPaste drawing grows and shrinks according to your proximity, once the compass arrow is green and you are facing the drawing of interest you can touch the screen to show a popup dialog where you can listen to any associated audio and interact with any supplied links for the drawing such as web site pages, telephone numbers, sms, email addresses and Google Maps TM. Along with these links you can also press buttons to Report an offensive or inappropriate drawing and to Star a drawing you may like.
During the Google ADC2 contest period PUBLIC geoPaste drawings reported as inappropriate or offensive will be automatically removed from the geoPaste cloud services without notice.
Starring a drawing will add an additional day to its expiration date thus making it persist longer before it expires and is automatically removed from the geoPaste cloud services.
Only drawings published as PUBLIC may be Reported or Starred and authors cannot star their own drawings.
The geoPaste Augmented Reality screen is a resource intensive display using the devices camera preview as well as the compass, GPS, vibration sensors and internet connection.
A 'wake lock' is also used to keep the device screen on when the AR screen is displayed. It is recommended that you only use this screen for short periods of time to conserve the devices battery power.
The geoPaste Drawing list screen shows thumbnail images of each of the drawings previously created and saved. The touch screen can be swiped to scroll up and down in this list. The dpad/trackball buttons can also be used to scroll. A short press on the touch screen will play any audio associated with a drawing and a long press on the touch screen will launch the geoPaste drawing publisher activity.
